Serving our Community

Since its inception in 1965, The Hawthorne Cancer Foundation (formerly The Johns Cancer Foundation) has served hundreds of cancer patients and their families throughout the greater Richmond metropolitan community. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing assistance to individuals and their families while they wage their battle against cancer. With the combined strength of The Hawthorne Cancer Foundation and The Hawthorne Cancer Center located at Johnston-Willis Campus within the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute, we are able to assist cancer patients in a variety of ways through financial and emotional support.

The Hawthorne Cancer Center

The Hawthorne is a unique cancer resource center in that it provides a single location in the metropolitan Richmond area for all cancer patients, their families and friends to gather to gain social and emotional support as well as receive cancer educational and resource materials.

Regardless of where you receive medical care, you can take advantage of the many resources and the comfortable surroundings of The Hawthorne.  If you have been touched by cancer, The Hawthorne has been created with you in mind.

Survivor’s Reflection Garden

The Survivor’s Reflection Garden is located at the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute on the CJW Johnston Willis Campus.

About the Garden

The Survivor’s Reflection Garden is a place to celebrate life and remember those who are surviving or have lost their battle with cancer.  The garden is located in a quiet spot lined by cypress trees and filled with flowering plants and other foliage.  The centerpiece is the entry, the rose arbor which was personally built and dedicated to the loving memory of Margaret Lucy by her husband and two sons.

A place of solitude, the garden is a sanctuary for patients and their families to visit at their leisure. Throughout the year, various gatherings are hosted in the garden, personal and public.
