New Hawthorne Cancer Foundation Board Member: Martha Carucci


Welcome to the Hawthorne Cancer Foundation Board of Directors.


Martha Carucci has been the Executive Director of the National Breast Center Foundation since August of 2015 and is on the Board of Directors of the Living Legends of Alexandria.  Martha was instrumental in acquiring the foundation’s 501(c)(3) status, creating the Walk to Bust Cancer, Swing to Bust Cancer Golf and Tennis Tournaments, and the Angel Wing Challenge. She has built a strong network of partners, volunteers and supporters to advance the mission of the foundation, ensuring access to proper screening, education, diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer for all women.

 

 Martha was awarded the City of Alexandria Commission for Women’s “Women’s Health and Safety Advocate Award” and was named one of Alexandria, Virginia’s “Most Inspirational Women” by VIP Alexandria Magazine. Recently, she was honored as one of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce’s “40 Over 40” recognizing her achievements and contributions to the city.  She is a member of the Breast Cancer Early Detection Coalition and the Breast Cancer Task Force of Cancer Action Coalition of Virginia.

 

Prior to the NBCFoundation, Martha spent many years as a lobbyist for the telecommunications industry.  She studied at the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, and Georgetown. She is also the author of two books, Sobrietease and Sobrietease 2:  Make It a Double.  Martha is an avid golfer and tennis player, coach of West Potomac High School Girls Tennis team and active volunteer in the community.
